DAVID DICK COMES TO FATKAT!

I took a trip down to Moncton today to pick up a new Fatkat, David Dick (yes that's his real last name, yes you can snicker... ... yes, he's used to it).

Despite my efforts of recruiting Daniel Theriault or Mike Concannon to dress up like pirates or FBI agents to throw David for a loop when we picked up at the airport, they wouldn't go for it. So instead I just showed up 20 minutes late in hopes I'd secure my record of good first impressions.

Being cool with my lateness, I did feel kinda bad so I asked David if he'd like to go dry hump the world's largest lobster. He said it was something he always had wanted to do. So off we went to the little town of Shediac.

When we got there there was a family of 6 running around doing the tourist thing, so we felt it was inappropriate to tee up the giant shellfish for the hump, instead we targeted the wee fisherman.

It was good enough for me.

When we got to the studio I told David to get behind the truck and unload some of his luggage.

I thought it would be the best time to truly try out the coolest gadget on my new truck - the reverse camera! -

Here's David saying hello!

and me saying goodbye.

I took his body down by the wharf and hid it in an old barrel, it's too bad really, he seemed like a nice kid.

All joking aside,

Welcome aboard Mr.Dick, now we just have to find you a cool nickname.

(snicker)

THE SKINNY ON A FATKAT : KAMDOWN

To kick off my weekly "The skinny on a Fatkat" interview type entry I take you now to a bit on Mr. Cameron Fraser, Fatkat's resident IRC junkie and computer guru.

For almost a year now Cameron (aka Kamdown) has been hammering on all sorts of technical goodies for us fatkats, from hardware to software, programming games to programming websites!

In the last few months cameron has done some amazing things for us at Fatkat - he's got our new servers up to spec, created a docketing system, worked on some websites, created an interally hosted FTP server, ACT server, set up a half a dozen firewalls, programmed some tough flash interactivity on our projects with Flinch studio and even shaved his back twice!! Not to mention that day to day hassles from Nikki and Andrew to get their printers online!

Oh he recently got his black belt in several martial arts! He's currently undefeated in his class.

One of the cooler gadgets is something Kam calls the Firebox. It's a Virtual Network gadget that I don't know much about; other then it allows freelancers and even some priviliged clients to work on our internal server from a remote location. How cool is that!?

I recently caught up with Kam on late night MSN, I had a chance to ask him a few very character revealing questions.

Click on image for a bigger... uhm....image.

Currently Kamdown is doing alot of the same. Recently our BIG shipment of new workstations came in from DELL - (Sorry Apple, better deals with Dell and we don't have to buy all our software again!) So kam has the daunting task of hooking them all up. YAY for KAM!...

...Uh, can you have them all done by tomorrow at 9am?

MUAHAHA!

Pop Rocks!

GEEKS ON ICE 2006 | PT.2

More pictures from last weekend.

The 2 on 1...
...the goal...

...the crying....

An old pal of mine came up from Halifax, Ian Westoby is a star defenseman who saved many a goal for me during this tournament.

Jamie and Terry break open the wine, they went through at least 4 or 5 bottles of it that night.

Elder gives our hidden beer bottles "The Shocker". A security guard caught us boozing in the hall way and made us finish our beers in the bathroom... ... how odd is that?

I got some big cup action for standing on my head in the first period. Lucas was impressed as he peed down my back.

Yves got some big cup action too, a bucket full of his puke from our bench. Classy!

GEEKS ON ICE 2006 | PT.1

What a way to round out our hockey season by submitting a team into the 2006 Geeks on Ice Hockey Tournament this past weekend in Moncton!

A bunch of us Fatkats and friends from assorted studios and businesses from around Atlantic Canada banded together to form Fatkat's Miramichi Moose Touchers!

You can always count on Brian Donovan for some laughs.

The Money Shot.

Mr. Dunn nursing a hangover.

Wally Mclean of Mighty Miramichi Community.

Unlike other teams who had full 20 man rosters and had organized warm up drills. The Moose Touchers had 12 guys nursing hangovers barely clinching onto the ability to skate without vomiting.

I had a blast in goal, I must have faced 60+ shots a game but I was having so much fun - dancing to the music screaming out obseneties and riding my stick whenever we scored a goal.

Hal Raper drilled the other opponents with his evil stare.

Lucas Roze scored half of our goals!

Yves was the teams MVP by far, no one drank more beer. It was priceless to see him puking at the bench in a garbage can in between periods. By far my best memory of the tournament.

Dan Elder with his Ovechkin style mirrored visor, he was turning on the rocket boosters througout our games.

Jimmy Richards coming off a shift and feeling the alcohol leaking through his skin.

Jamie Keays solid on the blue line. Saving my but a number of times.

My old friend Steve Chenier chimed in for a powershift.

Terry "The Hatchett" Matchett making it happen up front.

Andrew Dunn had so many penalities the timekeepers were announcing them like goals. He led the tournament in penalities I'm sure of it.

Assistant coach Daniel Theriault and Goaltender Coach Mike Gilbert "Moose Touchin".

Head Coach Nadine Dunn going over strategy with the coaching staff after the first game.

Despite losing all of our games and being out shot 350 to 20 and out scored 26 to 6, it was a great time had by all. A great tournament, we look forward to touching some more moose next year!

ADVANCED APOLOGIES TO MR.MICHAUD

It's time to put on make up...

It's time to dress up right...

It's time to get things started...

For THE MICHAUD SHOW tonight!

I've been teasing him for a bit now, it's kinda my thing. It's a good thing Dave's cool with me or I'm sure he'd bash my face in.

I can't resist on sharing it with our viewers though, because the resemblence is so very uncanny. Well... .... the hair at least...

Love ya Michaud!

INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP!

So this morning I arrive at the studio and Erika starts sassing me. I mean heavy metal sassing, going on about how's she's top kat in the house and it looks like it's going to stay that way for a long time!

Before I knew it I challenged her to the belt, I didn't mean to, it just sort of slipped out and I said it. Next thing I knew we were dressed up in the best damn goalie gear on the planet Brian's! (Yes their a client of ours, we're redoing their website!)

The Reigning Champion: Erika "The Cape Breton Assassin" Worthylake

The Challenger: Gene "Big Papa Stank" Fowler

The Referee: Kieth "A-Bomb" Dury

Belt Security provided by: Geri "I'll kick your butt!" Donahue.

Watch the Match!

Yeah that's right! New Champion baby! It was a tough match, she's a fierce competitor!

Yeah her gear was about 4 sizes too big for her, but that's not my fault!!

I smell a re-match!
